It was a naibiter for the winners of largest fish of the tournament. At 5 minutes before the last boat was allowed to enter the marina the boat “Reel and Deal” weighed in their #208 Yellowfin, caught at the Outer Gorda Banks. These guys fished both days there, never giving up hope that one of the big mamas that had been caught in the area last week had left friends in the spot. According to the captain, as the fish was being hoisted to the scales, they hooked up shortly before lines out, fought the fish for a bit over an hour then ran back to Cabo at almost wide open throttle, hoping to make it on time. They did, and the fish ended up being worth $77,000 in the jackpots, plus about another $45K or thereabouts as the largest fish of the tournament. Other winners were the “Minerva V” with a fish weighing in at 158 pounds, and worth $63,000m then third in the money was “Shambala”, who took the $5,000 and $10,000 jackpot on day one and then the $10,000 on day two with their Yellowfin in the #150 class for a nice total of around $60,000!
